Start date May 2025

Iron Blacksmithing Course

Ein Yael invites you to learn and explore in the open air
A welcoming space for creativity, reflection, deepening, and growth.
The artists of Ein Yael are excited to offer you a moment in time to reconnect with yourself through traditional crafts, hands-on work, learning, and meaningful experiences.

In this course, we will become familiar with traditional blacksmithing tools and working techniques, providing you with a solid foundation for your first steps in the world of traditional ironwork.

You’ll get to know the essential tools of the trade: anvil, hammer, tongs, forge, grinding and brushing tools, along with different types of metals and finishing techniques.
Together, we’ll also explore the rich history of working with iron and its tools.

Throughout the course, participants will create handmade iron objects for everyday use and enjoy the fruits of their labor: nails, skewers, a fork and knife, wall hooks, and more.

Course Objective

In this course, students will learn the craft of blacksmithing using traditional tools, alongside demonstrations of various techniques. The goal is to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to begin their journey into ironwork.

Course Duration: Approximately 12 sessions

Structure of the Sessions:
The first 9 sessions will include three components:

Theoretical segment: Explanation of the tools used throughout the course – what tools exist, how to select them, and even how to build them.
Demonstration: Each session will feature one or two specific blacksmithing techniques
Practical segment: Students will practice the demonstrated methods, reinforce previous techniques, and gradually build their own “toolbox” for shaping iron.

The final 3 sessions will be entirely practical, dedicated to a creative project in which students will have full artistic freedom. In these sessions, they will apply the techniques learned throughout the course to create a final piece of their own design.
